Properly qualified
Trips are led under the LCMLA (Local Cave and Mine Leader Award) scheme, backed by a trusted network of qualified instructors for larger or more technical days.
Cave Women is a small, friendly team sharing the underground world of the Peak District and Yorkshire Dales.
Cave Women was developed by sisters Emma and Claire, who grew up exploring the hills and the world beneath them. What started as weekends underground became a mission to help more people — especially women and first-timers — experience caves and mines safely and with confidence.
Emma is fully qualified through the LCMLA (Local Cave and Mine Leader Award) scheme and leads trips across both regions. Claire simply loves caving, and brings the warmth and encouragement that puts nervous first-timers at ease. When trips are larger or more technical, we work with other qualified instructors so every group gets the attention it deserves.
There are lots of ways to get underground — here's why people choose Cave Women.

We carry appropriate public liability insurance and run to recognised good practice, so you can focus on the adventure rather than the admin.
Hundreds of hours underground across the Peak District and Yorkshire Dales mean we know these systems, how they behave and how to get the best out of a day.
We have genuine experience supporting people with SEND and additional needs. Tell us what works for you and we'll adapt the trip, pace and communication to suit.
We love the underground world — the geology, the history, the squeezes and the wow moments — and that enthusiasm is contagious whether it's your first trip or your fiftieth.
Sensible group sizes mean you're never just a number — everyone gets attention, encouragement and time to enjoy it.
Trips are open to all. We also run regular women-only dates for those who prefer them.
Qualified leaders, proper kit and sensible group sizes on every single trip.
We don't just pass through — we explain the geology and the human history of each system.
